Food Hunting in Cirebon

I am finally in Cirebon. It's a hot town, hotter than Jakarta. But it's hotter this year!!! I can't stand outside without any sunglasses. When I go out of the air-conditioned room, the hot air seems to 'grab' me by the face. As an example of how hot Cirebon is, three fans are not enough to keep the air cool. It's a combination of the heat from the sun, the humid air from the land that meets with the dry wind from the sea. :(

The town was still quite empty the day I arrived. Many shops are still closed. It's hard to get the kind of food I usually have: empal gentong(a kind of soup with beef seasoned with cumin, onion, garlic, and chives with light coconut milk) and lamb satay. I mean the delicious one. I had to settle with the'mediocre' type. How unfortunate. :(

We found a place. The empal gentong was okay but the satays were not as I had expected.... The meat chunks were raw! :( (see the picture) I had to ask the seller to re-grill them. One re-grill was supposed to fix the problem. But, noooo.... I asked him to do it three times! The seller said the fire died during the process. Tsk,tsk,tsk.... what an excuse. After waiting for another five minutes, the satays were ready. Right before we lost our patience.:)

We're going food hunting again tomorrow. Hopefully with a better result.... ;)
