'close' means going to my direct boss' chamber at 08.30 (after the secretary called me and let me know that she's arrived at the office) with one, two or perhaps three questions. All of them are usually answered within 10 - 15 minutes. Oh yeah. Did I mention that I never say that 'Good morning, ma'am. Your necklace is very lovely.' or 'How was your trip yesterday, ma'am? Did you enjoy it? I am sure everybody there were happy to welcome you.'? I honestly don't know how she takes my attitude when we're in those short meetings, but she has no complaints so far. But I can't read her mind, can I?
I know that I am pushing it too far at times. When there's something so urgent and I need a quick fix but when I enter her chamber I see her working with letters with her secretary, revising and editing, I just let myself in and stand there. Sometimes only for a minute before she gives me that look and says, 'Wait a minute, OK?' Sometimes I stand for a minute before she looks at me. Sometimes three. My standing means I need the answer ASAP. She always goes back at me right after her business with her secretary is done. To assume that she is comfortable with my ways or that she understands my style is a dangerous thing.
About the chit chats that are never there when we're together (hihihi), I figure that there are appropriate places and times to chat and talk about things like her hair, her trips, her family, her health. Certainly not in a business-like situation. Besides I am a believer of 'when people compliment too much, each compliment becomes meaningless'. I doubt if I can give appraisals or compliments in a short period of time. And make it a habit (!). But I think I need to have this skills. It may come in handy for the good of many one day. Who knows? Hmmmm, I need a good trainer to convince me that doing so is not difficult. A damn good trainer.
