Independence Day

This year's Independence Day celebration still leaves me with so many questions.

How come the second largest coconut producer in the world after Malaysia has a soaring price of coconut oil?

Why on earth do we have to line up for oil when we (think we) have oil mines all over the country?

Can somebody explain the reason the domestic price of gold increases when we have one of the largest gold mines in the world?

Everybody knows we have been importing rice from Vietnam and Thailand. Can we say that we are an agricultural country? Does the term mean we are a country which is dependent agriculturally?

I wrote a thesis on military operations and found that there were so many submarines under our military's nose. What about the abundant sea harvest? If it's so easy to go under the seabed, what's so difficult in taking the resources?

When we borrow money and we return for more and the lender gives us what we want, don't you think you have to smell the fish and find out whether it's smelly or not? I don't get it.

I am proud to be an Indonesian. This celebration should be more than lomba tumpeng, panjat pinang, lomba bakiak and others.

I am proud to be an Indonesian and I am still waiting for its awakening. Hopefully soon...
