Teaching for Promotion

Ahhh...it's finally over....

It's a marketing strategy....
It involves teaching...
The students are of different competency....
In front of public place....
The audience is the diners.... ;-)

The topic was "Me"
The initial syllabus?
  1. Ice-breaking with a doll/ ball,
  2. Storytelling,
  3. Flash cards (nuclear family),
  4. Extended family,
  5. Family activities,
  6. Family members,
  7. Drawing students' family tree,
  8. Presentation of family tree by students,
  9. Occupation
  10. Occupation (exercise),
  11. Drawing family members and their occupation....

The final syllabus?
  1. No ice-breaking,
  2. Yes, there is storytelling (this is where the horror begins...). No body seems to know names of family members.... Not even 'father' or 'mother'..... ARRGH..!
  3. Flashcards (nuclear family) limited to only 'father', 'mother', 'sister', 'brother'...
  4. Drawing the family tree and presentation....
Conclusions?
  1. Teaching in public place means paying attention to your students though many eyes are on you. Indifferent ducky alias 'cuek bebek'... :-D
  2. Expect the unexpected. Variations of language competence can make you desperate and impatient. Preparing plan A, B and/ or C probably is the best way to anticipate.
  3. Always bring extra paper with extra marker. They always come in handy when you suddenly have to change your lesson plan.
  4. Always involve games and as a marketing strategy, prepare a token for each student.
  5. Last but not least, like it or not, this type of learning is a promotion. The spectators expect to see result of the class. Make it observable. Besides, it gives a sense of achievement for the participant.

The moral of today's event?

  1. I learn a lot....
  2. Capek ... It seems I have to take another 'Antangin', just like last night....
