Quo Vadis Television?

Is it just me or has television changed a lot?

Sure that there were still good programs. I kinda like the talkshows but I'm becoming more selective right now. Does the topic matter? Nope, not really. The guest speaker? No. It's the host, and smart and diplomatic hosts are rare to come by. You can definitely tell who's a smart host or not by the questions or the reactions he/she gives on a certain topic.

Like this talkshow where the guest was a red-district worker. After a short dialog, the host closed the segment by saying, "Well, I hope that you will return to the 'right path' soon. This 'path' you're choosing now is the wrong one, don't you know that?" WRONG CLOSING. Had the unlucky guest been given a second chance, she wouldn't have chosen the 'path' she's taking. And besides, how does the host think the guest would react to that?

I used to enjoy watching the news, especially news about the invention on something, or an achievement we've earned. News about poverty, flood, famine, land problem, domestic conflicts seems to dominate the screen. I am not eager to those. I'd rather surf through my handphone, click the address of the TV station's website and choose what I want to read or watch (Oh yeah. You can watch the video in their website).

Infotainment? Ahmad Dani - Maia? The Azhari's? Ariel - Sarah? Questions like 'Why do young artists change partners like clothes?'' Why do some people go through a divorce?' 'When will Cynthia Lamusu get married?' Ahhh, pleeeeaaasssseeee.... While some others are busy thinking about where they'd sleep tonight after their place is totally in a mess, thanks to the hands of the local government a.k.a KAMTIB, many others would care to have a debate over whether Ahmad Dani and Maia would be back together or not.

Sinetrons? Too dramatic. Lots of verbal violence. Less strong characters. Predictable story line.

Television is just not a best friend for me anymore.
