The plane left Jakarta at 6.20 so I had to leave the house at 4.00. Early morning trips.... I'm getting used to it.
There are two fixed flight schedules to Banjarmasin. One at around 6 and the other 2. Since there was a big event the next day, I decided to take the early one. I need some time to adjust. And I need to know what the committee planned for me.
The trip from the airport was quite far. Without heavy traffic and no toll road, I reached the affiliate after an hour trip. The committee chairperson and the head of affiliate gave preliminary info and I went to see the room we were going to use.
Looking at the room arrangement, I could assume that I'd have to move a lot. It's horizontally arranged. What made it worse, there were two big pillars blocking the view if the participants sat at the left or right wing.
From the committee, I learned that the number of participants grew from 100 to 137. Though the fact made me have butterflies in my stomach, I could deal with that. I said to myself, 'That's just a number. I just have to give my best',
But the worst was yet to come.... The committee told me that a few weeks before the D-day, the number of participants was only 30. Many others, who were not English teachers, were interested to join in. Despite the warning that it would be an English event, they still wanted to register. The committee couldn't refuse.
That's the beginning of my 'workshop disaster'....
