The second part of National Day Celebration was the Community Gathering (Pesta Rakyat). The occasion began by having a
Tumpeng competition. The judges scored the
tumpeng not only for the taste but also for the decoration. I have to admit, these housewives do know what they are doing. Sure, the taste is probably a standard-tasting yellow rice -- a little bit salty with a hint of fragrant turmeric taste. The decoration of a
Tumpeng is not only about putting chilli flowers here and boiled eggs there, but also about arranging the layering of the yellow rice to give certain effect for the observers (in this case, the judges).
After the competition, it was time to finish all the
Tumpengs. That's the best part of the event. While everybody was enjoying the rice and its condiments, the band and the singer set the mood so that everybody could relax.
So, what's next year? Let's just wait and see....
