One can only imagine how life was so much ahead of you and in four hours, it was all gone by the fire. Almost 500 houses were burnt, and 287 families were left with no home with only the clothing they wore that night.
People said it was an electrical shock that caused it. Some others said that a big developer is about to build affordable apartements so they needed to 'get rid off' the land tenants. The fact that the area is so packed with huts and houses made of wood caused the destruction period even faster.
Thinking how hard life will be for them, organizing a small charity movement was all I could think of. Last week, the teachers in my school started with the money collecting and a few days after that, some more kinds of donation: decent used adult and baby clothes, sajadah, sarong. Some others had promised to donate milk, women needs, baby food. The intention of donating this, that, this and that keeps on coming. Even the cleaning lady in the office helped me sort the donated clothing and arranged them into categories!! The whole process is overwhelming because I don't expect it to turn out like this.If there is a word to describe 'the happiness one gets knowing that others care for the need', that's the way I'm feeling now.
To all donators, I will make sure that the people get the donation you gave. May God bless you always with the kindest hearts and the spirit of sharing.
Thank you.
