There I was. As if I wasn't busy enough.... another reunion. This time it was for my elementary school friends. Unlike the previous reunion, the challenge was more on the database. To make matters worse, there were bombings the day before. After some 'consultations', we decided to continue with the plan.
The place was quite empty and the parking lot was not as full as it usually is. There were 15 people on my invitation list. Some already gave confirmation notice and promised to come. On the D-day, however, my heart sank a bit because so many backed out. They let me know when I was already at the meeting point. Oh well.... :(
Finally, 8 of us came. Two hours late from the promised time (you can imagine how patient I tried to be.... :o ). After a short late lunch, for some, we booked a lounge to vent our singing desire (notice that I don't use the word 'talent', :O ).
At the end of the day, I thought,'It was good to see your friends successful.' But I couldn't help knowing this one friend who chooses not to have a steady job just because he wants to have life that way. I got busy calling friends so this particular friend could have a ride to the meeting point just because I know he has no money for the gasoline. During the meals, I saw him picking food from my friends' plates and from mine. All he ordered was a glass of cold tea because he knew we had to go dutch for this event. I could pay for him, but I don't know if he would approve. Besides, I was afraid that I would embarrass him. Oh well.... :f
Yes, I would remember the small reunion I had with them. The friend who is now a soldier in the Indonesian border, a policeman, an educator, a secretary, a pilot, a manager and others.
And til this day I can't forget what I have seen and thought about during it. That one friend of mine.
