Tundra?
When Akbar, his nanny Ijah and I finally returned home tonight, he was sound asleep in his body hugging position and his head tilting on Ijah's right arm. A few minutes before, I called home and said, 'Buka pintu. Mangsa sudah tidur. (English -- 'Open the gate. The subject is asleep.'). It's necessary because then the nanny would walk as calmly but as quickly as possible to bring him into the 'target': the bedroom without waking him.
There was a short conversation that took place in the car.In the process of making him sleep, of course.
It was like this:
'Sudah boleh pulang?' I whispered while looking at Akbar's closed eyes.
'Jangaaaaan.' She gave me the worried look.
'Knapaaaa? Kan udah mereeeem?' I gave her a surprised glance. I was being impatient. The dinner we bought at the backseat was getting cold: sop kambing, sate kambing and sate ayam.
'Masih belum tundra.' Ijah said.
'APAAA?Kok TAUUUU?' I showed my disbelieve.
'Tuh,tuh. Matanya belum bener bener ketutup.'
I was left with my silence. Not because I surrendered in this conversation, but because my sister uses that term TUNDRA a lot. And I mean A LOT. Ijah knows the term. She could explain it. Tsk,tsk, tsk. The power of exposure. WOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!
I AM amazed.
Anyway, it took me 3 rounds on the boulevard, a round of the roundabout and several rounds of housing blocks to get Akbar to sleep. We had to because whenever it's sleep time, we'd put him on the bed and turn off the lamps but he couldn't sleep. He'd struggle. And what shoutings he could make NOW.
We'd put him in the nicest bedroom in the house, the coolest too. Somehow something leaves him uneasy and uncomfortable. Or maybe frightened? Perhaps he has my sis' ability to see the unseen? We probably don't know until he could actually speak. Hopefully we will never know. Enough horror at home already.:-)
In short, night sleep time has never been easy. The only way we know that can put him to sleep is to drive around the housing complex until he's tired and sleep in the car. Well, anything for you, Child. Anything for you.... :-)
