As I was sitting in the front porch of my house, I couldn’t help wondering, “Wouldn’t it be better if we could have more than just a mango tree in the small yard”. So, not long after that, I found myself in front of kiosks of plant in the neighborhood. First target was “daun sirih” (a kind of ivy with yellowish green leaves). I bought 4 pots of that and felt that I needed to buy more ivies when I’d hung those, so I bought another 3. It is not enough though, I think I am going to buy some more. I mean, 7 pots are not enough to make the terrace look “green”. Besides, I had been able to grow the ivies in other pots and the young are now in two pots.
Next is the fragrant lime, the “childhood plant” (I don’t know the name, yet), “tapakdara” (an old fashioned plant, I first saw this flower when I was a toddler) and the bush which could grow easily with no effort at all. They have grown successfully and yes, with no fuss whatsoever.
The following plant choice was an adventurous decision. I bought three pots of roses: pink, yellow, white and red, jasmine and a “batavia” plant. The roses were blooming when I bought them. I immediately transferred the first three into a new pot. BIG MISTAKE. In no time, all three dried out. The red one which I did not move still grows beautifully until this very day. My guess is because there is a “soil shock”, maybe the new soil I had put contains too much nutrient and the roses couldn’t stand that. What a pity…. I feel so guilty looking at the dried stems and buds of the unbloomed flowers. I am sorry….
It is not going to stop me from becoming a green thumb wannabe…. Not yet at least….:-)
