Pontianak Street Food

Since the girls finished their final test early and my pick up was surely going to be late, I took advantage of the time strolling along the street. I saw an ‘es nona’ vendor, cellphone voucher counter, a ‘batagor’ kiosk and a ‘satay’ tent which I’d targeted since the time I arrived, 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

I went to the cellphone counter, bought the starter pack for a local number. It’s for the internet connection. Then I went to order ten sticks (?) of satay and the rice cake. On my way to the place where I gave the training, I stopped by and bought some batagor. Very hungry eyes alias laper mata skaleeee… Hahahaha….

The meat in the satay is cut in a a bigger portion than what I’ve had before. The good thing is that they don’t use that much fat. The meat then is not as tender, but I am sure that the Pontianak satay is healthier. Yummy.

Too bad I cannot say the same thing about the batagor. It claimed to have been made from a certain fish, but I can’t smell that before, during and after I had it. The sauce was supposed to be made of peanut, yet it’s just a sweet brownish sauce with no crunch. Perhaps they try to reduce the production cost: Rp 3.500 for 4 pieces. But honestly, I don’t mind to pay more for a crunchier sauce and a richer batagor. Don’t you agree?
