The Death of A General

My eyes are glued to the telly, watching the news of his death. Though the scenes tell many of the details about his latest condition since morning, my mind plays its own 'slides of his history'.

I am his product. I was born during his era in its best or worse 'interpretation' and like it or not, it has made me the way I am.

Watching the breaking news, I remember his sessions with the farmers. Also his playing golf, fishing, and harvesting. The delayed or live program were all over the TV station: dari desa ke desa, shows on kelompencapir, and quizzes for farmers. Sure,it's because he himself was a farmer. It's his vision as a president.

I reckon his programs which lead to 'ketahanan pangan' policy that brought us to our independence in providing food for everybody. Who could forget 'keluarga berencana' (family planning) program? Though rejected by religious leaders, he made sure the project continued.

All this talk does not mean that everything was appropriate during his time. But today at the time of his death, I just want to reminisce him as a leader with a vision.

Good bye, pak. I hope you can finally find peace in the hands of God.
