Will My Wish Come True?

Today's session was started by my student's story that he thought was funny: he is undergoing a training to be a general manager and he's preparing himself. One of the preparations is having a laptop ready for class discussion. After this morning's briefing, he was informed that no one may use a laptop for the sake of the discussion because the sound of the keyboard clicks would disturb other participants.

So, it turned out that he won't be needing a laptop.... and he thinks it's funny.... (where's the punchline anyway? hehehe)

Something suprising then....

He described the computer he'd just bought and I commented that he made quite a fast move. We talked about the need of it just last wednesday and today he had bought one. 'Fast move,' I thought. He also told me that he already has a company laptop and a computer with 17-inch LCD screen at home. 'Why would I be needing another computer?' he said. 'I will use this computer for a MONTH. Then, I'll let it go.' Then he said, 'When I pass this program, this laptop is YOURS.'

I wasn't sure the first time I heard it so I asked, 'Sorry, pak? Are you serious?'
Giggling, he said, 'Of course I am! I asked my subordinate to buy a small version, fit for a lady. Why would I want to keep it after the program? I already have more than enough...If I pass, this laptop is yours.'

'.......' I was speechless. I mean, if he intends to keep it, why would he buy the lady-friendly version? He's male, for God's sake! It's like he bought that version purposively.

Looking at my overwhelmed face, my student just smiled. Just like it's arranged, the laptop then arrived in class directly from Mangga Dua. He then opened the box and showed me how special it is: the compact size, the webcam, the speaker, the features..... SLURP...SLURP....

Honestly, I have been thinking about buying a small laptop for my over-island training for so long. In fact, and I could swear, that I plan to buy a small-affordable-simple-programmed local laptop TOMORROW. I know that he's studied with me for more than two years, but that's not all enough reasons to give me such extraordinary and costly gift.

How can this be happening? I am afraid to hope, but I couldn't help it.... Well, if it's mine, then it's mine, right? Hellppp meee Gooodddd..... ;-)
