The room seems colder than the last time I visited the radio station. I search for Arif but instead I meet Agus.
'A substitute', he says. 'Arif's sick'.
I thought,'Mmm,okaaaaaay. He seems okay, no reason to feel nervous.'
I go through the paper for ten minutes until anxiety kills my patience.
'Mmmm,Gus. Can we talk?'
'Sure. Just a minute, I am preparing things here.' he replies.
'Mmmm,OK. I want to discuss the script with you.' I insist.
'OK. Here it is.'
Ladies and Gentlemen, there are changes! CHANGES! Ihik.
I text a friend, he calls and gives some ideas (which I am not truly able to understand and listen. THAT's how nervous I am!).
I tell myself.
'I can do this.'
'I can do this.'
'I can do this.'
After a short talk with Agus while waiting for our turn, it's SHOW TIME!
It's kinda fun to listen to my voice in the radio minisode. I have to be a Javanese who is brilliant in speaking English but fails terribly to make her Javanese dialect disappear when she talks in her Bahasa. After only 7 minutes, it's time to take up questions. When doing so, I know a trick. To look better? Of course NOT! :D To sound convincing and relaxed. NEVER LOOK AT THE MIKE, LOOK AT THE HOST'S FACE. It does work!
It's not the first time I use that trick, actually. In my first radio singing debut when I was in kindergarten, that's what I did. I looked away from the mike. I guess if you speak in front of an audience, ignore them. If you speak in front of a mike, ignoring it is the way.
